Does Cracking your Knuckles Actually Hurt your Bones?
How many of you have heard that cracking your knuckles can cause arthritis or other bone problems? I have! Tons of times! However this is not completely true.
First let’s understand why knuckles crack. The thing that makes the CRACK sound that we hear, are actually bubbles trapped between the synovial fluid of the joints. This is a natural process that has to do with changes in the pressure of that fluid. [Read more...]

Don Johnson – The Man who SMASHED Atlantic City
You may be familiar with Don Johnson. Don is of course the great American actor famous for his role in Miami Vice. However, his name sake may have pulled off something much cooler than our friend with the fantastic head of hair. Another Don Johnson beat three of Atlantic City’s top casinos taking them for a combined $15.1 million.
But, before you rush off and try your new ‘get rich quick on bingo‘ scheme, realize that Don is not your average gambler. He was selected by the casino because of his reputation as a whale. When revenues decrease, which was the case at the time in Atlantic city, casinos rely on customers who wager huge amounts. These high rollers, or whales, wager tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars a hand. However, this strategy backfired for Atlantic City casinos. The casinos sweetened the odds to entice the whales come gamble. Essentially, the casino decreased their advantage by making slight changes in the game (in this case Blackjack). Don waited out long enough until he believed the casino made enough changes so that the game they presented him with actually placed the odds in his favour! As a result, it was casino smashing time for Don Johnson.
His final triumph was the Tropicana Casino which he hit for $6 million. In the previous four months, he had taken $5 million from the Borgata casino and another $4 million from Caesars. After the Tropicana onslaught, he was effectively banned him from its casinos worldwide.
You have to wonder, if he is willing to gamble for all that money, would winning it make any difference to his life?

Fired for downloading porn – but then rehired!
I love this story. It sure helps to maintain a great reputation for government workers!
“Franklin Andrews, a senior analyst in the Department of Citizenship and Immigration (Canada), spent more than half his workday browsing websites that weren’t related to his work, including downloading pornographic images. The department fired him, describing the internet use as “time theft.”
Andrews, who had worked for the government for 27 years, appealed to the Public Service Labour Relations Board and won his job back. He claimed that he wasn’t given enough work to fill the hours and became bored.
Adjudicator Kate Rogers ruled that while he had violated federal government policies by downloading porn, his online habits did not explicitly qualify as time theft.
The term usually refers to “an overtly fraudulent act, such as altering a time card, having employees punch in for each other or failing to record or falsely recording attendance on an attendance management system,” said Rogers.
She also found that Andrews’ supervisors failed to give him enough work to occupy his hours, and credited his clean record of service.”

Blue Ear the superhero
Have you heard the story about the hearing impaired boy who didn’t want to use his hearing aid any more because superheros don’t wear hearing aids? His mom wrote Marvel comics to find out if there was one that did. They responded by not only saying that Hawkeye wore a hearing aid, but also creating a new superhero that can hear trouble thanks to his new listening device. Nice work Marvel.

Toothy Baby
I’m not sure if a toothy baby is the best spokesperson for breastfeeding.
Coprolalia
Coprolalia, the spontaneous utterance of socially objectionable or taboo words or phrases, is the most publicized symptom of Tourette’s, but it is not required for a diagnosis of Tourette’s and only about 10% of Tourette’s patients exhibit it. Coprolalia comes from the Greek κόπρος (kopros) meaning “feces” and λαλιά (lalia) from lalein, “to talk”.
It is usually expressed out of social or emotional context, and may be spoken in a louder tone or different cadence or pitch than normal conversation. It can be a single word, or complex phrases.
Heavy Rain
I consider
myself a gamer that likes to adventure away from the classic over hyped and commercialized games. I just bought a new game for the PS3 called Heavy Rain. No, not the movie “Hard Rain” with Christian Slater…damn that movie rules and I probably own it on laser disc but that’s for a later post.
This game steps out of the box with the tag-line “What would you do for someone you love?” Don’t get me wrong this is not a happy go lucky story staring Matthew McConaughey. You take control of 4 different characters and guide them through a series of chapters using QTE (Quick Time Events or for non gamers button mashing). The goal is to hunt down a serial killer who will be involved with each of the characters in one way or another. You can finish the game with numerous endings depending on the choices you make. You may end up killing each character, having one survive or make it to the end with all four.
I have played 75% of the game already and some of the choices made me think “Did I make the right decision?” Anyway, if you own a PS3 (exclusive to the PS3) give this game a rent at least. The reviews have been great and most people are playing it a second time because of the multiple scenarios.
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKPPdgBK3r8
Also if you own a DVD Player go buy Hard Rain it has nothing to do with this game but who doesn’t want to see Christian Slater drive a boat down the middle of the street.
Wolfman…really??!!??
I will admit I was a little pumped to see this movie because I am a fan of the old classic genre. However, upon reading some reviews at Rotten Tomatoes (31%) I have changed my mind over the course of the day. Let’s face it today’s movie studios are running out of ideas and continue to look for the quick remake that will put them at the tops of the box office.
Now, I haven’t seen The Wolfman so I can’t officially recommend this movie but this just proves my point a little more each day. Most of these remakes have been bombing in the ratings, yet somehow people are still going to see these movies. Who knows this movie might be fantastic but if you want to save your cash just send me $5 and I will film myself running shirtless around the park under a full moon.
Snowball versus Bro-ball
Have you heard about this white basketball league? When I first read about it yesterday, I thought it was a joke. But it is the real deal. A Georgia boxing promoter is starting a league because he believes whites are better at the fundamentals of the game. You can only play if you are a white and born in the states. Now they are talking about a reality show culminating in an all star game of the best whities against a black all star team from another league. That’s right: “snowball versus bro-ball”.
Some may be disgusted by this but I get a great sense of hope. Maybe someone will start a half arab half whitie league where you have to be 5’9 and 155 pounds and born in rural Saskatchewan, then I can fulfill my dream of being a professional basketball player!
Thinking of a career change?
Have you heard of Jaime Rascone? I’m sure answers will vary significantly if you ask a hundred people if his job is better than theirs. Jamie is an occasional male model, DJ, and a prostitute…tester. Apparently, to perform for high society, ladies have to go through some vigorous testing. The last part of the test is the making of love. The Digitally Blonde website says “He takes diligent notes on, say, how they moved their hips and whether their groans were adequate, and makes recommendations to the madam.” Life does present some interesting challenges.
